Increasing Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity to Diversity
Carol Dahir, Ed.D., Professor and Chair, School Counseling Department, NYIT

Educators recognize the importance of increasing their knowledge and understanding of racial, cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity of Pre-K–12 students and their families. Part of this commitment to improving student achievement is taking the time to understand the similarities and differences of the many diverse populations we work with on a daily basis. Participants will heighten their understanding of cultural similarities and differences and the value of cultural uniqueness in the learning environment as a critical strategy to close the achievement, opportunity and attainment gaps.

This webinar series is supported, in part, with a federal GEAR UP grant awarded to Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) by the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC), the state agency designated to administer the state’s NYGEAR UP grant.
