Hello - and THANK YOU for taking the time to complete this important survey from Newport's Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC). The BPAC was established by the Newport City Council in 2013.
In this survey, you can share how you feel as a pedestrian in Newport. Please provide as much detail as possible when describing your concerns, and for the 25 named locations, identify whether you feel:
Safe: "I feel comfortable from a safety perspective using this crosswalk."
Unsafe: "I feel very vulnerable to traffic here and I am not comfortable using this crosswalk."
I Don’t Know: "I have no experience, or my experience varies too much with this crosswalk to comment."
We will use data from this survey to identify the crosswalks where pedestrians feel the most unsafe, as well as features of locations that are perceived as safer. As the locations addressed in this survey represent both city and state roads, we will share the report and our recommendations with both city and state officials - who are working together to ensure the safety of all road users. Your experience as a pedestrian will inform planning to improve pedestrian safety in Newport.
