Thank you for taking our survey on whether the Society of Professional Journalists should change its name and what a change implies.

Proponents urge a name change as part of a larger effort to move SPJ from a trade organization to have a greater focus on advocacy. The change, advocates say, would attract additional members and emphasize SPJ’s mission to improve and protect journalism.

Opponents argue that the name change is unnecessary, inconsequential, doesn’t go far enough or question how broadening our ranks might affect the Society’s governance.
